Book Reviews

An 'emerging reader,' especially an older reader (fourth grade and older), needs the practice and encouragement that good literature provides. It can be challenging to find the book that matches the reader's interests and abilities. It can be helpful to know ahead of time what kinds of challenges a book will offer the reader. These reviews have been written with this in mind. Many of these books are award-winning (Newbery, etc.) books that are found on many 'recommended reading' lists.

New but older readers have inspired a genre of books of their own -- "high/low" books that are easy to read but appeal to older readers. There are fiction and non-fiction books like this. You can find sources for high/low books by clicking here
